Here is a perspective not normally included in history books. In some ways it makes the civil war become a current event and therefore the numbers of dead and wounded makes you numb to comprehend. Having a map of the eastern U.S. as you read will help in some cases, but there were lots of references that I could not find on a current map. River and valley names are hard to locate. An enclosed map would have been helpful.The descriptions of Grant and Lee were interesting and so were their age differences. This also added to the understanding of the conduct of the war.

An excellent read, I really enjoyed this book.

This book was a quick read and well worth the effort. My one disappointment was in its lack of detail being merely a summary of events. I gave it four stars because I feel it could act as a starting point for further research.
It was a delight to read about General Lee and Lieutenant General Grant in a polite, factual, and clear way. You will appreciate the writing and get a very good understanding of what was happening.
I enjoyed learning about the parallels between two of the greatest generals in American history. I recommend this book to anyone who is as fascinated by our history as I am.
I'm not sure when this book was written, probably quite a while ago judging by the style of writing, but it was very interesting. I learned quite a lot about both men. I would highly recommend it to anyone looking for something different about the Civil War era.
A quick, read with some interesting facts about the two generals, but fairly superficial and hero aggrandizing, as one would expect for a book of the time.
For both the fan and student of history, this book provides an excellent summary of the general's lives that includes their youth, campaigns in Mexico and the American Civil War, and what happened to them after the war.
